 Dear Colleagues,

Apologies for the multiple cross-postings

The Centre for Engineering in Society, Concordia University, Montreal,
Canada is happy to announce a job posting for a tenure-track Assistant
Professor. We are looking for someone with a PhD in STS or closely related
field and with at least an engineering or computer science degree in their
educational background.

The posting is titled Responsible and Sustainable Innovation in Engineering
but we are open to candidates who do research in a range of areas related
to innovation, technoscience and society. We are especially interested in
candidates with research interests in a critical reading of technology
innovation from angles such as decolonization and technology development;
degrowth, infrastructure, energy, & climate change; transnational &
Southern perspectives on innovation especially from Africa, Asia or Latin
America; or racialized and gendered labour of innovation in Artificial
Intelligence, Smart Cities, Healthcare or other high-tech contexts. The
selected candidate will maintain an active research agenda and will
additionally contribute to the teaching and program-oriented needs of the
unit. Candidates who demonstrate evidence of advancing equity and inclusion
in their research, teaching or community engagement are strongly encouraged
to apply. They will join a supportive unit that seeks to nurture inclusive
academic excellence at the intersection of technoscience, engineering, and
society.

Electronic applications should be submitted by January 15, 2024, but
applications will continue to be reviewed until the position is filled. More
details about the posting are available here

.

Concordia University is an English-language public institution of higher
learning (where the primary language of instruction and research is English) in
the French-speaking province of Québec. Since this position supports
academic functions of the university, proficiency in English is required.
Working knowledge of French, including reading and grading student work in
French, will be an asset. We especially welcome bilingual candidates who
are comfortable practicing research in both English and French.

The Centre for Engineering in Society is a unique interdisciplinary
experiment that seeks to bring critical STS scholars to work within a large
engineering and computer science faculty. The centre's primary mandate has
been to contribute to the instruction of professional skills for
engineering graduates. However, through our research-active faculty
members, the centre has made a mark in the university as a space for doing
novel research that advances questions of equity and sustainability in
technoscientific research.

Please feel free to contact me if you need any further clarifications or
are unsure if you fit the profile. I am also happy to answer any questions
about the working environment in the unit/university/province. Feel free to
circulate this email on other listservs or study groups

Best wishes
