ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN TECHNO-ANTHROPOLOGY

At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, The Department of Planning at
Aalborg University’s Copenhagen Campus is looking for candidates for a
position as Assistant Professor in Techno-Anthropology. The position is open
for appointment from August 1st 2021 or soon hereafter. The position is open
for appointment for a period of 3 years with a possibility of 1 years’
extension. At Department of Planning, we have about 200 employees situated
at the Aalborg and Copenhagen campus. The department provides high-quality
research and teaching in the field of planning, technology and society in
order to create a more sustainable future. We are interdisciplinary in the
technical, natural and social science disciplines and present a unique
combination of social and technological understanding where digital and
technological solutions merge with the needs of society. Our research
creates the foundation for educating the future workforce, and as part of
Aalborg University, the department rests on a socially engaging and
problem-oriented approach. It is also at Department of Planning that the
UNESCO Center for Problem-Based Learning is at home. That helps ensure, we
create educations aimed at the job market and a society with increasing
focus on technology, digitization, sustainability and partnerships for a
sustainable transition.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Assistant professor will be integrated in the research group for
‘Techno-Anthropology and Participation’ at the Department of Planning (

conduct socio-technical research and applicants for the position are
expected to contribute to research on Socio-technical intervention and
Human-Technology relations. Teaching will primarily be done at the bachelor
and the Master’s programmes in Techno-Anthropology, but possibly also at
other study programmes at the University.
The preferred candidate has
*         An interdisciplinary background, combining technical science /
engineering and the humanities / social science, e.g. by having one of the
following:
*         a PhD in engineering or technical sciences with focus on
human-centered and/or socio-technical research,
*         a MSc degree in technical science and a PhD in social science, or
having an interdisciplinary degree in Techno-Anthropology, Human-centered
technology designs, or similar.
*         experience with action research, qualitative empirical studies of
technology-use, and / or participatory design
*         documented research at international level preferably within the
areas of technology assessments, socio-technical design and/or technological
innovation. We especially welcome applications with research experience
within the areas of health care and / or social work.
*         experience in teaching and supervision of students in a variety of
subjects related to Techno-Anthropology or equivalent on bachelors and/or
Master’s levels.
*         experience with national and/or international research
collaboration across academic disciplines and with external collaboration.
*         Proficiency in the English is a requirement. The majority of the
teaching tasks at the undergraduate levels are in Danish, whereas teaching
at the graduate levels may be in English or in Danish. Therefore, you are
expected to learn Danish, within a reasonable period of time.  
Research and teaching in Techno-Anthropology is highly interdisciplinary.
Thus, the preferred candidate must be capable of and interested in
facilitating interdisciplinary research and prepared to engage in
cross-faculty teaching.

Qualification requirements:
Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications
at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of
each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years
in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level
cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

AGREEMENT

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of
Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of
Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.
Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for
state-employed academics.
