Hoping the holiday is peaceful and restorative.

The first Polecon meeting next year will be on Wednesday, January 11, at
16:00, reading Bruce Carruthers' *The Economy of Promises: Trust, Power,
and Credit in America*. This is a book that's been cooking for a long
time. Carruthers' earlier book, City of Capital, is a deeply interesting
study of the politics of the English financial revolution. The book is
available on Amazon and on Libgen.rs.

For our second meeting, in February, we'll read Usman's *Economic
diversification in Nigeria: the politics of building a post-oil economy *(a
great new study of the Lagos transformation, full of interesting lessons
for South Africans). The book is open access here

Take care.
