From Menno.VanZaanen at nwu.ac.za Fri Apr 12 14:51:30 2024 From: Menno.VanZaanen at nwu.ac.za (Menno Van Zaanen) Date: Fri, 12 Apr 2024 12:51:30 +0000 Subject: [Afridig] Call for hosts DHASA conference Message-ID: <9a7f54c71c7a0bf5869e6a1c764e14598d18a6ef.camel@nwu.ac.za> The Digital Humanities Association of Southern Africa (DHASA) Executive committee (Exco) invites proposals to host the next DHASA conference. The DHASA conference so far has been organized in 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023. We hope that we may be able to move this from a biennial meeting to an annual meeting. Information of previous conferences can be found here: https://dh2017.digitalhumanities.org.za https://dh2019.digitalhumanities.org.za https://dh2021.digitalhumanities.org.za https://dh2023.digitalhumanities.org.za The call for hosts is open, meaning that we invited bids from academic institutions in Southern Africa. The organization of the conference typically occurs in collaboration with the DHASA Exco. Conference information The conference attracts approximately 100 attendees. It consists of a number of days, typically a week which includes panels, tutorials, and presentations of (peer-reviewed) articles. The articles are published in the JDHASA journal (https://upjournals.up.ac.za/index.php/dhasa). Local organizers' responsibilities Local Organizers are responsible for developing the contents of the conference website, providing facilities, organizing a conference banquet, and coordinating any other social events that the local hosts think appropriate. The conference is entirely self-financed through conference fees and any other financial contributions that DHASA or the local organizer is able to arrange. DHASA provides partial financial underwriting of the conference (and can, in certain circumstances, advance small amounts of funds for expenses that need to be prepaid) and works together with the local organizers to ensure that registration fees and other income will support all conference expenditures. Plenary speakers are selected by the local organizers in consultation with the DHASA Exco, and associated costs are funded from the conference budget. Participants of the conference will be registered as members of DHASA. Overall, the DHASA Exco will provide guidance and advice. Proposal process Parties interested in organizing the next DHASA conference should contact the current DHASA president Menno van Zaanen or the vice-president Karen Calteaux to express interest and request support as soon as possible. A brief proposal will be requested; a format for this will be provided. -- Prof Menno van Zaanen menno.vanzaanen at nwu.ac.za Professor in Digital Humanities South African Centre for Digital Language Resources https://www.sadilar.org ________________________________ NWU PRIVACY STATEMENT: http://www.nwu.ac.za/it/gov-man/disclaimer.html DISCLAIMER: This e-mail message and attachments thereto are intended solely for the recipient(s) and may contain confidential and privileged information.
