Dear colleagues,

The last workshop as part of the Wits Library - NRF digitisation training initiative will be presented on the 28 and 29 November 2022 as an online event.

The theme will centre around the pilot aggregator which the Wits-NRF Initiative developed in collaboration with EBSCO and participating institutions. It will be presented in its present format during the workshop. This is an important outcome from the Wits Library - NRF Initiative, with prospects of developing a national aggregator project for South Africa.

The workshop will be presented by EBSCO on the 28 November 2022, followed by a response from Dr Roger Layton on the 29 November 2022 . The main objective is to establish a way forward for a national heritage aggregator, identifying opportunities, requirements, responsibilities and commitments, in order to achieve that.

The online presentations will be as follows - and we will be sending the Zoom links closer to the time:

DAY 1 PRESENTATION BY EBSCO - Contributing to the National Aggregator - Technical requirements, metadata and standards

How does EBSCO make your information available?
What happens with hosting?
How is the metadata delivered? Preferred methods and alternatives
What formats are supported?
The information that is needed
What then? How can I take part?

DAY 2 PRESENTATION BY DR ROGER LAYTON - Vision and a Reference Model of a national aggregator

  1. Reference Model based on the Digital Heritage Framework model
  2. Future-proofing of the national aggregator, based on the Trusted Digital Repositories concerns for sustainability
  3. An interactive approach in which data is gathered during the workshop to gather inputs from the delegates to be conducted both in terms of short group discussions
and presentations, and online surveys conducted and reported during the presentation.

Please confirm your attendance or indicate the names and contact email of people from your organisation who would be attending the workshop - by no later than the 24 November 2022 - and copy gabriele.mohale at wits.ac.za<mailto:gabriele.mohale at wits.ac.za> , Azizo.dafonseca at wits.ac.za<mailto:Azizo.dafonseca at wits.ac.za> , charl.roberts at wits.ac.za<mailto:charl.roberts at wits.ac.za> .
