Dear Keith and Hlonipa

I’d like to invite you to a seminar that we’ve organised in collaboration
with Sabinet. We have an impressive line-up of speakers with whom we’ve
been fostering a closer working relationship. These strategic engagements
are already making a significant difference to Wits Univ Press and we’d
like to involve the wider scholarly publishing and research community in
South Africa. The speakers are:

Laura Wilkinson - Education Manager at Crossref

Alice Meadows - incoming President of the Society for Scholarly Publishing
(SSP) and Director of Community Engagement at NISO (National Information
Standards Organisation)

Adrian Stanley - past President of the Society for Scholarly Publishing
(SSP) and Managing Director of Digital Science (incl Figshare)

Carlo Lavizzari – Legal Counsel for Publishers Association of South Africa,
International Publishers Association and the STM Association

This initial seminar is an opportunity for publishers, authors, editors and
institutions to critically observe the broader programmes of activity which
underpin our efforts to improve the reach and readership of our books and
journals. We hope it leads to more direct engagement amongst ourselves and
would welcome your involvement. Please feel free to forward this invitation
to anyone you think might be interested.

Registration and attendance is free. Please do feel free to pass this on to
the wider Afridig list if you think it is relevant.

Warmest wishes

Andrew
